Fecteau-Boutin and Grabovskyy win all-Canadian clash in Agadir qualifications

 
Agadir, Morocco, July 26, 2018 – Duos from Australia, Canada and Italy won their qualification matches on Thursday to advance to the men’s main draw at the Agadir two-star event on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.


Teams from Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden also progressed, but without having to take to the sand courts on the Moroccan Atlantic coast. They received byes in the qualification bracket to qualify for Friday’s main draw action.


In the all-Canadian clash for a spot in the main draw, Simon Fecteau-Boutin and Sergiy Grabovskyy cruised to a 2-0 (21-11, 21-13) victory over Tim Ryan and Adam Thompson.

Before that, Italy’s Davide Benzi and Luca Spirito claimed a straight-set 2-0 (22-20, 21-15) win over Christian Helland and Jorn Olav Gamlemoen of Norway.

In the last match of the day, Australia’s Gareth Mann and Christopher Blake also got the job done in two sets – 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) against Egypt’s Ahmed Fahmy Farag and Abdelrahman Fayed. 


The top three seeded teams in the qualification bracket, Austria’s Alexander Huber and Christoph Dressler, Czechia’s David Lenc and Filip Habr and Sweden’s Linus Tholse and Jakob Molin, received byes to find their way into the main draw without playing.
