World Tour returns to China for inaugural Yangzhou Open

 
Yangzhou, China, October 9, 2018 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour is back in China for its third event on the 2018-2019 calendar with the inaugural Yangzhou Open from October 10 to 14.



The 4-star event in Yangzhou is the second of the five double-gender tournaments in China this season led by top Chinese men’s pair Gao Peng and Ha Likejiang and women’s pair Wang Xinxin and Xia Xinyi.

The challengers are Brazil’s Pedro Solberg and Bruno Oscar Schmidt, Qatar’s Ahmed Tijan and Cherif Younousse, and Russia’s Nikita Liamin and Igor Velichko in the men’s tournament, while Brazil’s Barbara Seixas De Freitas and Fernanda Alves lead the women’s tournament contenders together with United States’ Sara Hughes and Summer Ross and Alexandra Klineman and April Ross.



Olympic volleyball champion David Lee will make his World Tour debut in the men’s qualification round. The former USA captain hopes to conquer the sand court with partner Mark Edwin Burik as they open the Yangzhou Open against China’s Nu Eraili and Yang Cong at 9.00 local time.

Qinzhou 3-star winners Rebecca Cavalcanti and Ana Patricia Silva of Brazil will try to extend their winning run as they face Canada’s Caleigh Cruickshank and Anna Dunn-Suen at 10.40 in the women’s qualification round.

A total of 43 men’s teams from 22 countries are entered into the Yangzhou 4-star event, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Serbia, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United States and hosts China.

The women’s tournament has a total of 39 teams from 18 countries, including China, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Ukraine and the United States.
