Oscar and Luciano find winning rhythm in Qinzhou

Qinzhou, China, October 2, 2018 – After a stumble in their pool play opener, Brazil’s Oscar Brandao and Luciano Ferreira de Paula, pulled themselves back into the competition with two straight-set victories at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Qinzhou 3-star.

Oscar and Luciano eliminated China’s Nu Eraili and Yang Cong 2-0 (21-11, 21-17) to seize a spot in the main draw’s first round, where they sailed through at the expense of Australia’s Christopher McHugh and Zachery Schubert.

The Brazilian pair managed to contain the strong serves and found the seams in their opponents’ defence to record a 2-0 (21-14, 21-16) victory.

“The match was difficult for us because our opponents are good blockers and good servers,” Oscar said. “We had to control our passing to overcome that. Our passing and setting were very good, and the sideout was excellent.

“I’m glad that it’s over and we could get some rest now. We hope to play good again tomorrow.”
