USA rallies past Germany

Sara Hughes / Summer Ross United States (10) def. Chantal Laboureur / Julia Sude Germany (1) 14-21, 21-19, 15-8 (44)

Sara Hughes, United States - “That was a great match. Germany played so well. In the first set we didn’t side out so well but in the second and third we took care of business. We’re taking it one point at a time out here so we’re ready to compete and have fun and hopefully come out with a few more victories.

Summer Ross, United States - “I thought it was a game of the least errors and we ended up holding our own there in the end. The German fans are amazing. Center Court is like a dream, I just want to go back and play again on center.” (On Ross getting served consistently): “I wasn’t surprised. Sara’s playing amazing. Sara’s always aware so if I’m getting served and they throw her a bone, she’s going to side out. I feel like I just won the lottery but I know I have to re-focus for the next match.”

Chantal Laboureur, Germany - “It’s amazing, it was already quite crowded here and you can hear every voice. It’s nice to play here at home which doesn’t happen often.”

Julia Sude, Germany - “We would like to beat them. In the first set we managed quite well to keep them down but I think at the end of the second we were a little unlucky and did some not right decisions and they came out with some self confidence in the third set and kept it to the end. I think we enjoyed the day off yesterday but now we know how to play here again and we’ll try to make it better at night.”
