Russia eliminates Latvia

Oleg Stoyanovskiy / Igor Velichko Russia (10) def. Aleksandrs Samoilovs / Janis Smedins Latvia (5) 21-18, 19-21, 15-13 (43)

Oleg Stoyanovskiy, Russia – “We knew we were in a tough situation, but we tried not to think about it. The goal was to play the best we could and win the game. I think we had less pressure today. After losing two, we felt less pressure than in the first two matches and played calmer.”

Janis Smedins, Latvia - “That’s how it is. We couldn’t play at our best and when that happens in this tournament you won’t win games. I’m physically and emotionally tired, so I just want to take some days off and relax.”

Aleksandrs Samloilovs, Latvia – (Is the fatigue mental or physical?): “It’s all together. Our first tournament was the first of January in The Hague. It’s the first time in our careers we had such a long season and so many World Tours and so many important tournaments, especially now in August. We had two 5-stars, the European Championships, and two long tournaments when we won Espinho and Moscow and now the Tour Finals in six weeks. I’m really happy actually that we didn’t get injuries because we are squeezing the maximum out of our bodies. We just missed a little luck today in the third set.”
