Poland ousts Italy at World Tour Finals

Michal Bryl / Grzegorz Fijalek Poland (9) def. Daniele Lupo / Paolo Nicolai Italy (8) 21-18, 21-18 (39)

Michal Bryl, Poland - “The first match we lost in Gstaad and I was afraid of the game. This is an amazing feeling, an amazing stadium, amazing city. It’s a perfect tournament and my second dream after Vienna. It’s hard to imagine (an all-Polish semifinal) because we know each other but it’s great to win because one of our teams will be in the finals.”

Grzegorz Fijalek, Poland - “We tried to focus on our side and we played very well on the sideout. It was the best sideout we’ve played all season and I hope we can keep it to tomorrow. We know each other very well, we practice a lot of times together. We’ve never won against them, but I hope this is our time and we play much better than before. A lot of Polish fans wrote me messages that they will come because it is the weekend and I hope they will choose both teams. We are good friends but for sure we will fight, a friendly fight.”

Paolo Nicolai, Italy - “We played some good matches and we are happy for this. But we are disappointed because we wanted to play in the final four but it’s OK. They deserve it. They played an amazing sideout. They changed the shots, we didn’t know how to score on Greg, so we changed the serve, but it didn’t work. It was a positive week because we played all the matches with great teams and we also at times played well. This evening we could have done better but it’s OK so for sure we are happy to play a tournament like this.”
