Phnom Penh, Cambodia, May 5, 2018 - Pairs from Germany, New Zealand, Japan and Russia are through to the semifinals of the Anchor International Beach Volleyball Carnival Phnom Penh 2018 FIVB World Tour two-star event after Saturday's action in the Cambodian capital.Phnom Penh Main Draw results and schedule.
Of the three German sides who fully dominated the qualifiers and Main Draw pool play, only Anna Behlen / Sarah Schneider survived to make it through to the top four. The pair had come in through the Qualification Tournament, before winning both their pool play matches and clinching a deciding 2-0 (21-19, 21-17) win in the quarterfinals over Israel's Sofia Starikov / Noy Chorin.
The Germans now meet New Zealand's Julia Tilley / Alice Bain, who advanced to the medals round with straight-set wins over the Czech Republic's Sara Olivova / Karolina Rehackova 2-0 (21-15, 21-14) in the Round of 16, and Germany's Lisa Arnholdt / Leonie Welsch 2-0 (25-23, 22-20) in the quarterfinals.
Despite a setback in their opening match, No. 2 seeds Ksenia Dabizha / Daria Mastikova of Russia managed to come through pool play and scored a 2-0 (21-9, 23-21) Round of 16 win over Germany's Karoline Froehlich / Viktoria Seeber and knocked out Japan's Yui Nagata / Minori Kumada of Japan 2-1 (17-21, 21-17, 15-8) in the quarterfinals.
The Russians are now up against another Japanese side, No. 3 seeds Sayaka Mizoe / Suzuka Hashimoto, who eliminated Greece's Konstantina Tsopoulou / Dimitra Manavi 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) in the Round of 16 and top seeds Phoebe Bell / Jessyka Ngauamo of Australia 2-1 (18-21, 21-19, 15-12) in the quarterfinals.Phnom Penh Single Elimination bracket.
