Czech pair deny German upset bid

Barbora Hermannova / Marketa Slukova Czech Republic (2) def. Victoria Bieneck / Isabel Schneider Germany (9) 20-22, 21-13, 15-12 (0:49)

Marketa Slukova, Czech Republic - “It looks like we trying to keep it exciting as we played a couple of three-setters today against really tough teams. We were losing in the beginning and kind of came back in the end of the first set, but it wasn't enough to close it. We came up stronger in the second and the third. It’s a victory which is very important.”

Barbora Hermannova, Czech Republic - “I expect nothing less than a big fight. We didn’t play the Canadians, yet this season and we are really looking forward to it. We’ll try to sleep well after this exciting day and prepare well, get the strategy our staff will prepare for us and let’s see what happens.”

Victoria Bieneck, Germany - “Our passing and setting weren’t that stable from the beginning of the second set and that gave them a lot of chances to take some points. Those chances came after we won the first.”

Isabel Schneider, Germany - (On the serve in the tiebreaker in which they collided): “It was a good serve for sure, but we were unlucky. Normally we have a clear communication and it’s also a point we can improve. A lot of points to improve our game and we will work hard on it. It’s amazing. Yesterday was our first game in Hamburg, we have a lot of fans that cheer for us and in the evening it’s special. Losing always feels bad and I’m thankful all the people are coming to watch our sport and support us.”
