Canadians gain Pool A lead with 2-0 record

Heather Bansley / Brandie Wilkerson Canada (5) def. Maria Antonelli / Carolina Salgado Brazil (4) 21-17, 21-16 (36)

Brandie Wilkerson, Canada – “It was a tough one. It was hot and sunny and with two athletic teams in the court, there are a lot of rallys. It was a good fight. It’s always about continuing to minimize our errors and keeping control of our game. There are some very strong things that we did and it’s just keeping that consistency, which is just as hard as getting rid of our errors.”

Heather Bansley, Canada – “There was a lot of back and forth. We had the lead and then they would take it back. We were just trying to stay steady and at the end we scored some points on our defense and we had really serving today, which put them in trouble and that helped us a lot.”

Carolina Salgado, Brazil - “They served much better than us and that was the difference. Maria and I are normally a good serving team, but we didn’t bring it today. They had us in trouble when siding out and we didn’t take advantage of the chances we had.”
