Bryl/Fijalek net golden berth berth

Michal Bryl / Grzegorz Fijalek Poland (9) def. Piotr Kantor / Bartosz Losiak Poland (4) 21-17, 21-15 (51)

Grzegorz Fijalek, Poland - “We tried to change some things, but I can’t say exactly what. We tried to focus on side, focus on how we can make a sideout. We’re very happy, our day was today and I’m sure we’ll keep our level for the final. Maybe this time we can beat Norway because we lost three games in a row but against our colleagues we also lost our matches the last two seasons. I’m very proud of Michal, he’s still young and for him to play in a full stadium in that atmosphere is very hard. We weren’t the better team on paper and for him it’s also difficult. But he played very well on the net and he had a good float serve. We didn’t play bad (against Norway in the Vienna final). We analyzed the game and we had 78 percent of the sideouts. Normally you can win very easily when you 70-plus. We had 78 but the opponents had 88 so it’s not easy. They have the best shape ever I think and now they are the best team in the world for sure, but we’ll try to beat and it will be a fight for sure.”

Michal Bryl, Poland - “We practice together for three or four years and there’s absolutely nothing we don’t know about each other. So, the key to win it was to stay strong and be smart. That made the game really hard but we did what we had to do and things went well for us.”

Bartosz Losiak, Poland - “They played much better than us especially on serving and sideout. I don’t know what to say. We tried to do a lot of things, but the answer was clear they were more prepared than us. They also played better block defense and this was also the key. We want to bring two medals home to Poland, so we will fight.”
