Mariafe Artacho / Taliqua Clancy Australia (7) def. Victoria Bieneck / Isabel Schneider Germany (9) 21-15, 22-20 (38)
Taliqua Clancy, Australia - “It was really good. We just wanted to build from yesterday and we knew that it would be a strong home-crowd feel so we knew we had to bring our best again. It was a really good match and really good serving at the end by Victoria. It’s absolutely great We knew we had to play four really great matches to get this opportunity. We had that disappointing loss against Czech, so we knew we had definitely fight to get this outcome. I’m so proud of Mariafe because without her scooping up all those balls we wouldn’t be in this position. I’m proud of our achievement so far. It’s still soaking in, really.”
Mariafe Artacho, Australia - “We needed to start well otherwise we would have found ourselves catching up. We did a good job of staying patient through the first set. They had some really good rallies at the end, so we had to make sure we stay composed and have that belief and trust in each other. We’re going to enjoy the moment today and recover and reset and get ready for another tough match tomorrow. It’s bloody amazing. We’ve had some really tough matches and to come out on top in this tournament where we play the best in the world, it’s such a special feeling.
Victoria Bieneck, Germany - “We had nothing to lose in the end of the second set and we were in the good side to serve so we went all in. We wanted to play our best here and in some moments we managed to do that, but in some we didn’t. That’s why we couldn’t keep the high level over the entire games. It was an honor to be here and to play in front of this crowd. This is an experience that will help us moving forward.”
