Agatha & Duda top Hamburg podium

Agatha Bednarczuk, Brazil - “It’s difficult to tell you in words what I’m feeling now. We are tired about the tournament, we are tired about the season, it was so hard. We can finish the season in first place (in the world rankings) and this is amazing because the difference in second place was only 40 points. We didn’t know about this very hard tournament; the 10 best and we didn’t have a wild card (in the field). Now we have a beautiful highlight to the season. Now it’s time to celebrate. We need the celebration in this moment because we had a beautiful season and after, we’ll come back stronger.”

Duda Lisboa, Brazil - “I still feel I lack some experience in some moments. In the last point I was nervous because I couldn’t side out, but Agatha helped me a lot. She was amazing. Hamburg is an amazing place, I love playing here. The fans are very warm, they look like Brazilian for us. I’m certainly looking forward to coming back next year. I think we struggled a little bit in the start of the season, when we had some fifths and ninths, but we figured out what we needed to do from physical and technical standpoints to get better and after that we progressed. And now we’re here, very happy about how we ended the season, but there’s certainly room for more. This is certainly my biggest victory. Except for the Olympics and the World Championships, this is biggest beach volleyball tournament in the planet. It’s a special victory for us and it’s the first time a win an event outside of Brazil. I kept thinking about it and after we lost the final in Moscow our coach said that my time would come and I kind of let it go. I’m glad it finally happened.”

Marketa Slukova, Czech Republic - “We just made a little more mistakes. Our service was not that efficient, so we didn’t put them under pressure. That was the difference. In the second set we started to serve a little better and we were able to close the lead on them, but they had some really nice situations on defense and they turned them into points and we didn’t. I think (silver) is a dream come true. We didn’t know if we would be able to participate so to end up with a silver medal, that’s just amazing. We had a hard week, our Pool B ended up all being on the podium. I think the silver medal is a really nice highlight for the end of the season.

Barbora Hermannova, Czech Republic - “I think it’s pretty awesome. We played a really good tournament here and we enjoyed it on the center court even though the Brazilians were really strong today and we didn’t find the right buttons against them, but we are very proud of what we achieved, and the silver medal will be hanging on the wall next to the medals from Ostrava and Vienna for sure. I think we will for sure be happy what we did this season. We had the strongest end of the summer season since we teamed up, so I think this will be a very big plus for us. Now we will take a break and start to prepare for the China tournament and the tournament in Las Vegas.
