Agatha & Duda advance to semis

Agatha Bednarczuk / Eduarda "Duda" Lisboa Brazil (3) def. Chantal Laboureur / Julia Sude Germany (1) 12-21, 21-14, 15-9 (47)

Agatha Bednarczuk, Brazil - “The first set our sideout was very bad and we couldn’t attack, and they played very well. Chantal played very well on sideouts. We did many things wrong and they played very well. In the second and third sets I helped Duda a little more on the pass. She was in a little space on our side of the court, so her place was better, and I can set better for her. She listened to more, in the first set she didn’t listen to me. Every game she’s learning, it’s crazy. This is my third semifinal here in Hamburg. I love the atmosphere, I love the people here. This is a very nice tournament for me. I hope tomorrow will be a good game. It will be a big fight because they play very well and we know each other very well. The last time we played them in Itapema we won but it was a hard game. It will not be easy for both.

Duda Lisboa, Brazil - “I struggled a lot in the first set again, but this time we remained calm and started to understand what they were doing and figuring out what we needed to do in our end. Agatha helped me a lot and we just tried to be stronger and it worked. We remained confident and our service helped a lot in the end.”

Chantal Laboureur, Germany - “In the first set everything worked out – serve, reception, set, attack, defense, blocking, everything. We were very aware they would change something in the second set, so they changed, and we didn’t play so consistent anymore. They took their chances and they are strong in the mind, now they are first in the world ranking, so they won the season if you look at it like this. They know how to fight back. We for sure take home that we feel very comfortable to play on center court, it’s very important for next when the World Championships take place here. We also take home that we can play very well but we have to work on our consistency.”

Julia Sude, Germany - “In the first set we took the energy from the crowd and everything worked out. And in the second it took some balls until we could manage make the difference. They improved their serves and we couldn’t side out after the first set was almost 100 percent. We proved we’re a team that can fight back even if we lose the first game (of the tournament). We were fighting for every point and it was so worth it to make it to the quarterfinals. Every year we win one more game here in Hamburg so maybe we win more next year.”
