Brasilia, Brazil, May 19, 2019 - Hosts Brazil play Olympic champions China and Russia take on the Dominican Republic when play gets underway at the Nilson Nelson Gimnasium in Brasilia for the start of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League on May 21. Get the team and head-to-head stats below.

Brazil - China (May 21, 2019)

Head-to-Head

·    Brazil and China will meet for the 66th time in world level major competitions (Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup) and for the fourth time at the Volleyball Nations League.
·    China won 26 of their previous 65 world level matches against Brazil, including a straight-set victory in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League third-place decider.
·    Brazil's tally of 39 wins over China is an all-time high for a single team in world level major competitions. No other team has won more than 31 world level matches against China (United States 31).
·    Brazil beat China in both the preliminary round (3-2) and final round (3-0) of the 2018 Volleyball Nations League.
·    At the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, China claimed a five-set victory over Brazil in the quarter-finals en route to their third Olympic gold medal.

Brazil
·    Brazil finished fourth at the 2018 Volleyball Nations League. They missed out on a place in the final after a 3-0 loss against Turkey in the semifinals and then lost in straight sets against China in the third-place decider.
·    Brazil started their 2018 Volleyball Nations League campaign with a 3-1 defeat in their opener against Germany, before winning each of their next nine fixtures in the competition.
·    Tandara Caixeta scored 231 points in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League preliminary round, at least 84 more than any other teammate (Ana Beatriz Correa 147).
·    Caixeta was Brazil's top scorer in each of their last four Volleyball Nations League matches (all in the final round), combining for a total of 71 points.
·    Only Poland's Agnieszka Kakolewska (52) scored more points from stuff blocks in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League preliminary round than Adenizia Da Silva (48).

China
·    Reigning Olympic champions China finished in third place at the 2018 Volleyball Nations League. They beat Brazil in straight sets in the third-place decider 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-22).
·    China won their first two matches in the opening week of the 2018 Volleyball Nations League, both in straight sets (versus Dominican Republic and Belgium). Republic of Korea proved too strong in their third fixture (3-0).
·    Liu Xiatong (120) and Li Yingying (120) were China's leading scorers in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League preliminary round.
·    Zhu Ting was China's top scorer in each of their four Volleyball Nations League matches (all in the final round), combining for a total of 87 points.
·    No player scored more points in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League final round than Zhu Ting (87). USA's Michelle Bartsch-Hackley followed on 78 points.

Russia - Dominican Republic (May 21, 2019)

Head-to-Head

·    Russia (including as Soviet Union and CIS) have won all their 14 matches against Dominican Republic in world level major competitions (Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup), including a straight-set victory in last year's Volleyball Nations League.
·    Dominican Republic have only played more world level major matches against Brazil (20) without ever winning than versus Russia (14).
·    Dominican Republic claimed multiple sets in just one of their previous 14 world level matches against Russia, in a five-set defeat at the 2009 World Grand Prix.

Russia
·    Russia (including as Soviet Union and CIS) have won five of the six world level major competitions (Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup). They only need to claim the Volleyball Nations League to complete the whole set.
·    Russia's last title in a world level major competition came in 2010, when they came twice from behind to beat Brazil in five sets in the World Championship final.
·    Six of Russia's seven defeats at the 2018 Volleyball Nations League came in straight sets.
·    Irina Voronkova scored a team-high 210 points in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League preliminary round. Natalia Malykh followed with 152 points.
·    Voronkova (210) was one of only eight players to score 200+ points in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League preliminary round.
·    Voronkova scored 177 spikes from 397 attempts (45%) in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League preliminary round. Only Serbia's Tijana Boškovic (49%) and Michelle Bartsch-Hackley (48%) recorded a higher success rate.

Dominican Republic
·    Dominican Republic are aiming for their second podium finish at a world level major competition, after a third-place finish at the 2009 Grand Champions Cup.
·    Dominican Republic won five of their last seven world level matches, all in straight sets and all at the 2018 World Championship.
·    Only Argentina (14) and Thailand (13) lost more matches at the 2018 Volleyball Nations League than Dominican Republic (12).
·    Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez (250) and Yonkaira Paola Peña Isabel (186) combined for 346 of Dominican Republic's 1072 points in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League preliminary round (32%).
·    Only Poland's Malwina Smarzek (361) scored more points in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League preliminary round than Martinez (250).
