With Tri Bourne sidelined with health issues for the 2017 season, the 44-year old Hyden is teaming with the seven-foot Doherty as the pair used a fourth-place finish in the season’s first event in the United States at the Fort Lauderdale Major to help secure a spot in the FIVB World Championships. Both players will be competing in their third world championships as Doherty has a pair of 17ths with Todd Rogers (2013) and John Mayer (2015) while Hyden has posted a 33rd (2013 with Nick Lucena) and a fifth (2015 with Bourne. While the 33-year old Doherty has played on the FIVB World Tour for the last four-plus seasons with two medals, Hyden’s footnote includes his Berlin 2014 win with Bourne to become the oldest player to win an international Beach Volleyball event.
