The pair qualified for the 2017 FIVB World Championships via the South American continental qualifying rounds. Cairus and Vieyto will be the first men’s team from Uruguay to compete in the FIVB World Championships. Although neither player has participated in FIVB World Tour events, Cairus and Vieyto placed fifth at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games in China and ninth at the 2016 FIVB under-21 World Championships. Earlier this season, Cairus and Vieyto posted three fourths and a fifth in South American continental events.
