Top seeds off to winning start at Aydin 2-Star

 
Aydin, Turkey, May 17, 2019 – Sven Winter and Alexander Walkenhorst won two from two on the opening day of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Aydin 2-Star on Friday to book their place in the quarterfinals. 




The German pair began with a 2-0 (21-18, 21-14) defeat of home court favourites Eren Kanli and Ali Cebeci, and followed up by beating Norway’s Hendrik Nikolai Mol and Mathias Berntsen 2-1 (21-14, 18-21, 15-12).
Second seeds Jasper Bouter and Ruben Penninga joined Winter and Walkenhorst in the quarterfinals. They started with a 2-0 (21-14, 21-19) victory over Turkey’s Mustafa Susam and Yusuf Ozdemir, and booked their place by holding off Austria’s Julian Horl and Tobias Winter, 2-0 (21-17, 21-19). 

Third seeds Finland’s Jyrki Nurminen and Santeri Siren will go into the round of 12 after they lost to Poland’s Maciej Rudol and Jakub Szalankiewicz 2-0 (21-19, 21-16). 

The tournament is taking place in Ataturk City Square in the centre of Aydin and it is the second year the city has hosted a 2-Star event. In 2018 Cuba’s Mailen Deliz and Leila Martinez won women’s gold, while Serbia’s Stefan Basta and Lazar Kolaric topped the men’s podium.
