Qinzhou celebrates return of World Tour

Qinzhou, China, September 29, 2018 – China’s southwestern coastal city of Qinzhou is delighted to welcome another edition of the double-gender 3-star event of the FIVB Volleyball World Tour from September 29 to October 4.

After the outstanding finishes of the Russian men and the Australian women in the previous edition, a bevy of strong contenders will vie for the 2018 edition’s top podium spots.

Half of last year’s winning pair in the men’s tournament, Maxim Sivolap, is back and hopes to make a repeat of his gold medal performance with his partner Artem Yarzutkin.

Leading the pack in the men’s tournament are Serbia’s Stefan Basta and Lazar Kolaric, who are set to start a new campaign after their Tokyo 3-star silver medal finish, against the likes of Belgium’s Dries Koekelkoren and Tom van Walle, Austria’s Robin Seidl and Philipp Waller and USA’s Casey Patterson and Stafford Slick.

USA’s Sarah Sponcil, who had an impressive World Tour debut in Haiyang, is on top of the women’s main draw with partner Kelly Claes. The USA pair will be pitted against equally talented duos like Italy’s Marta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi-Toth, Brazil’s Josemari Alves and Liliane Maestrini and the host nation’s Wang Fan and Xue Chen.

A total of 38 men’s teams from 21 countries are entered into the Qinzhou 3-star event, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Russia, Serbia, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United States, Venezuela and hosts China.

The women’s tournament has a total of 37 teams from 19 countries, including China, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Ukraine, United States and Vanuatu.
