Beach Major Series returns to Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale, USA, October 1, 2018 - The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour is set to return to south Florida for the third-straight season and the fourth time in the past five years as Fort Lauderdale Beach Park hosts the first Beach Major Series event on the 2018-2019 international calendar.

The Fort Lauderdale Major will be played February 5-10 for both men and women and is the 12th men's and the 11th women's event on the 2018-2019 FIVB World Tour calendar following stops in January in the Netherlands and India.

Following the successful FIVB World Tour Finals event in late September-early October 2015 where pairs from Brazil captured the men's and women's gold medals, Fort Lauderdale has hosted point-producing events in 2017 and 2018 featuring qualifying and main draw rounds.

Brazilians have dominated the Fort Lauderdale competition by capturing 10 of the 18 medals awarded for both men and women.

Americans and local favorites Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena are the only ones who snapped the string of Brazilian gold medal finishes by topping the men's podium in 2018 by defeating Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai of Italy in the finals.

Three of the six finales have been all-Brazilian affairs, including the men's gold medal match in 2017 and the women's title contests in 2017 and 2018.  Here are the Fort Lauderdale results:

Men
2015 - Alison Cerutti/Bruno Oscar Schmidt, Brazil
2017 - Saymon Barbosa/Alvaro Filho/Brazil
2018 - Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena, United States

Women
2015 - Talita Antunes/Larissa Franca, Brazil
2017 - Talita/Larissa, Brazil
2018 - Fernanda Alves/Barbara Seixas, Brazil
