Tokyo ready for next stop on World Tour

 
Tokyo, Japan, July 24, 2018 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour arrives in Japan’s bustling capital, Tokyo, this week for a 3-star double-gender event from July 25 to 29.



The event's top seeds include Chile’s Esteban and Marco Grimalt, Qatar’s Ahmed Tijan and Cherif Younousse and the United States' Casey Patterson and Stafford Slick, while Bangkok 1-star winners Takumi Takahashi and Yususke Ishijima lead the host nation's entries in the men’s main draw tournament.

The women’s main draw participants are headed by China’s Wang Fan and Xia Xinyi, and Finland’s Riika Lehtonen/Niina Athianen and Taru Lahti-Liukonnen/Aniina Parkkinen, to be challenged by top Japanese pair Azusa Futami and Akiko Hasegawa.



A total of 39 men’s teams from 19 countries are entered into the Tokyo 3-star event, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, China, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Qatar, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United States and hosts Japan.

The women’s tournament has a total of 32 teams from 15 countries, with Japan heading Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, and the United States.

The FIVB World Tour returns to Japan for the first time since a double-gender event in 2015. The nation has hosted 23 World Tour events to date with the hosts winning just two medals, a men’s bronze and a women’s silver medal.
