Haiyang ready for next 3-star stop on World Tour

 
Nanjing, China, July 17, 2018 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour stops in Haiyang this week from July 18 to 22 for the seventh event in China on the FIVB's 2017-2018 beach volleyball calendar.



Haiyang will host an FIVB World Tour event for the first time starting with qualification round matches on Wednesday. The men's main draw contestants are led by top seeds Grant O’Gorman/Ben Saxton from Canada, Brazil’s George Souto Maior Wanderly/Thiago Santos Barbosa and the United States’ Stafford Slick/Casey Patterson. The host nation's top seeds are Gao Peng and Li Yang who took bronze at the Jinjiang 2-star event last month.

In the women’s tournament, China’s Wang Fan/Xia Xinyi are the main draw's top seeds, ahead of teams from the USA - Emily Stockman/Kelley Larsen and Betsi Flint/Emily Day. The Chinese pair finished second behind Brazil’s Josemari Alves/Liliana Maestrini at the Silk Road Tangshan Open in Nanjing last month.



A total of 41 men’s teams from 22 countries are entered into the Haiyang 3-star event, including Australia, Austria, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Latvia, Norway, Oman, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, USA and hosts China.

The women’s tournament consists of 31 teams from 13 countries, with the hosts China leading Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Thailand and the USA.

The Haiyang 3-star event is one of seven stops in China in the FIVB’s 2017/2018 beach volleyball season. Other World Tour events in China include the 2-star events in Jinjiang, Nantong and Nanjing, the 3-star event in Qinzhou in October 2017 and the 4-star event in Xiamen in May. Nanjing also hosted the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships earlier this month. The 2018/19 season is also set to include events in Qinzhou and Yangzhou later this year.
