Campinas is a city and county in São Paulo state, Brazil. As the core of a metropolis of 2.6m people, it's the third biggest city in the state, just after São Paulo itself and Guarulhos. Campinas means "grass fields" in Portuguese and refers to its characteristic landscape. The Parque Do Taquaral is an excellent place for exercising and is a favourite local spot for running, walking or ridding a bike. Campinas is a regular stop of the Brazilian national beach volleyball circuit, having already hosted five stages (1993-95, 2005, 2012). |
