Stare Jablonki, Poland, July 7 , 2013 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship Mazury 2013 winners Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen of the Netherlands can point to the numbers, not only on the scoreboard but also in the stats to reflect how they won their first ever FIVB title.
The world champions were two of the most consistent players across all of the statistics while as a team they numbered the most number of spikes and were equal best with Austria’s Clemens Doppler-Alexander Horst as the best attacking team with a spiking percentage of 0.54%.
They were also amongst the stats leaders as individuals with Brouwer numbering a hitting percentage of .56% (2nd), 106 spikes (6th), 46 digs (4th) and nine aces (8th) while Meeuwsen was third in the number of spikes with 132, sixth on the hitting percentage with .52% and had 22 blocks (9th).
Meanwhile, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player Alvaro Filho not only performed superbly on the sand but the statistics also reflected how well he played. The 22-year-old topped the most number of spikes and the digs illustrating how often he was served to while impressing with his back court play.
The Brazilian played a superb tournament nearly taking his first ever FIVB title with 38-year-old Ricardo while two other Brazilians topped the number of aces and blocks with Evandro Goncalves and Alison Cerutti numbering 16 and 33 respectively although Alison’s block tally equalled that of legend Ricardo but the 27-year-old Alison played one less set.
