Nanjing welcomes World Tour

 
Nanjing, China, June 13, 2018 – The city of Nanjing opens its doors to the women’s single-gender 2-star event, FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Silk Road Tangshan Open from June 14 to 17, after hosting the 2014 Youth Olympic Games and the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships.

Top-seeded pair Wang Fan and Xia Xinyi lead three other Chinese pairs in the main draw. Wang/X.Y. Xia have claimed two silver medal finishes so far this season. They finished second on both occasions to Australia’s Mariafe Artacho Del Solar/Taliqua Clancy at the Sydney 2-star in November 2017 and the Lucerne 3-star in May 2018.

Brazil’s Josemari Alves/Liliane Maestrini, who just came from their gold medal victory at the Nantong 2-star, are seeded second in the draw. Russia’s Ksenia Dabizha/Daria Mastikova, Australia’s Jessyka Ngauamo/Phobe Bell and Japan’s Ayumi Kusano/Takemi Nishibori are the third, fourth and fifth seeds, respectively.



Australia, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Sweden, United States and hosts China comprise the tough field of teams at the Silk Road Tanghshan Open, which is the fifth of six FIVB World Tour events in China this season.

The $50,000 Silk Road Tangshan Open starts Thursday with the qualification round, the opening Main Draw rounds starts Friday leading to Sunday’s medal matches.



Nanjing will also host the 2018 FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships from July 10 to 15.
