Czechia’s Slukova/Hermannova play main gig at beach volleyball festival in Vienna

Vienna, Austria, August 4, 2018 – Beach volleyball pros and fans enjoyed a huge day of beach volleyball under the sun of the Austrian capital on Day 4 of the A1 Major Vienna presented by Swatch.

It was a historic Saturday for Czechia’s top squad Marketa Slukova and Barbora Hermannova. After their first-ever Beach Major Series silver medal in Porec last year, the Czechs claimed their first gold medal at a Beach Major Series event.

And Marketa Slukova could not deny Vienna provided the ideal setting, as it is where her husband and coach Simon Nausch is from.

The Czechs enjoyed the taste of gold and will do everything in their power to extend their winning run into the Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals in Hamburg to be played from August 14 to 19.

First, however, they will take some time to regenerate after the intense competition on the Danube Island in the heart of Vienna. Like the other athletes, Slukova and Hermannova took an ice bath to fight the high temperatures in Vienna.

But despite the heat, thousands of beach volleyball fans pilgrimaged to the Vienna Major Centre Court. The players rewarded their dedication with breath-taking rallies, unbelievable saves, and mind-blowing attacks.

Norway’s rising beach volleyball stars Anders Mol and Christian Sorum have taken the Austrian beach volleyball fans by storm. The reigning European beach volleyball champions turned into real crowd pleasers in Vienna despite their win over living Austrian beach volleyball legends Clemens Doppler and Alex Horst in the last game of the day.

Beach volleyball fans can now look forward to the final climax of the competition with the men’s semifinals and medal games taking place on Sunday. There is no doubt, the Austrian fans will once again build up an amazing atmosphere.
