Brazil defeats Canada

Agatha Bednarczuk / Eduarda "Duda" Lisboa Brazil (3) def. Melissa Humana-Paredes / Sarah Pavan Canada (6) 21-19, 21-15 (33)

Agatha Bednarczuk, Brazil - “That definitely stayed in our minds and certainly increased our desire to beat them. We don’t play that often and our last victory was July 2017, so it’s something that bothers us. We did some different stuff today from a strategy standpoint, but I think the key for our victory was Duda. She was playing so well, and she scored a handful of serving points, which allowed me to be more relaxed to side out.”

Duda Lisboa, Brazil - “It’s always a tough game for us. We tried a different strategy and were more aggressive with our serving and that helped us a lot. It’s great that we had this good start and we hope we can keep the same mental strength and the same consistency during the next days.”

Sarah Pavan, Canada – “We were winning 18-14 in the first and gave them like five points in a row. I think that was a big thing that went wrong. The wheels fell off at that point and we didn’t recover in the second and they just ran away with it. We didn’t manage Duda’s serve at the end of the first set.”

Melissa Humana-Paredes, Canada – (On playing only once today): “I think that will help to recover and to regroup. Tomorrow’s going to be a big day, we have two games and they’re must-wins. We’ve got to do whatever we can tonight to be ready to come out stronger tomorrow.”
