Ukrainian and Chinese pairs have field day in Qinzhou men’s qualification

 
Qinzhou, China, September 30, 2018 – Two Ukrainian and Chinese duos completed successful stints in the men’s qualification round of the 2018 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Qinzhou 3-star on Sunday.



Vladyslav Iemelianchyk and Denys Denysenko posted a straight-set (21-19, 21-17) win over Norway’s Lars Tveit Retterholt and Svein Oddmund Solhaug to move to the main draw, while their compatriots Sergiy Popov and Iaroslav Gordieiev outplayed France’s Youssef Krou and Edouard Rowlandson 2-0 (21-19, 21-18).

China’s Yan Tingyang and Li Jie cruised to the main draw via default of Turkey’s Hasan Hseyin Mermer and Yusuf Ozdemir, then Nu Eraili and Yang Cong delighted the home fans with a tight finish against Australia’s Tim Dickson and Marcus Ferguson 2-1 (12-21, 21-19, 15-10).

In other matches, Russia’s Taras Myskiv and Valeriy Samoday outshined Australian rivals Paul Burnett and Maximilian Guehrer 2-0 (21-19, 21-19), while Katsuhiro Shiratori and Takashi Tsuchiya outclassed Koichi Nishimura and Yu Koshikawa in the all-Japanese clash 2-0 (21-16, 21-9).

“We are happy to beat our compatriots,” Shiratori said. “It was quite difficult, but my partner Tsuchiya made the difference because he served very well. I just helped out.”

Canada’s Michael Plantinga and Aaron Nusbaum and Japan’s Yoshiumi Hasegawa and Keisuke Shimizu made an easier entry to the main draw with a bye.
