Sister tandems dominate pool play in Siofok

Siofok, Hungary, August 24, 2018 – Ukraine’s Inna and Iryna Makhno and Slovenia’s Nina and Tajda Lovsin were the two sibling pairs who dominated pool play in the women’s main draw tournament of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Siofok 1-star on Friday.

The top-seeded Ukrainian twins Inna and Iryna lived up to the name and defeated the host team’s Nikolett Tatrai and Lujza Papp 2-0 (21-9, 21-11). Things got much heated up in their second match at the Plasz Siofok Nagystrand, when Japan’s Sakurako Fujii and Mai Tanaka challenged them to play the tie-break set. However, the Ukrainians managed a comeback to record their second win at 2-1 (19-21, 21-18, 15-13) to move to directly to the quarterfinals.

The sister-power was also strong with Slovenia’s Lovsin siblings, as they emerged victorious from qualification with two wins, including an upset against second-seeded Agata Ceynowa and Martyna Kloda of Poland in their 2-1 (19-21, 21-15, 15-12) encounter.

In the evening, the Czech Republic’s Martina Maixnerova and Marie-Sara Stochlova defeated Hungary’s Eszter Lutter and Szandra Szombathelyi 2-1 (21-16, 19-21, 15-12). The disappointment did not end for the Hungarians as Lujza Papp suffered a serious shoulder injury that forced her to withdraw from the second game and the tournament.
