Wutzl/Fruhbauer carry momentum into Manila Open qualification

 
Manila, Philippines, May 3, 2018 – Austria’s Jorg Wutzl/Simon Fruhbauer are through to the main draw of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Manila Open after victories in the qualification round at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds on Thursday.



The Austrians carried their momentum from their title win at the World Tour 1-star event in Langkawi, Malaysia, recording victories over Paul Becker/Eric Stadie 2-0 (23-21, 21-16) and Langkawi 1-star finale rivals Petr Bakhnar/Taras Myskiv 2-1 (17-21, 21-18, 15-13).

Wutzl/Fruhbauer’s compatriots Felix Friedl/Maximillian Trummer also made it to the main draw, following triumphs over Sweden’s Linus Frantzich/Ludwig Simonsson 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) and Canada’s Felipe Humana-Paredes/Cameron Wheelan 2-1 (19-21, 22-20, 15-12).

Germany’s Max-Jonas Karpa/Milan Sievers and Spain’s Alejandro Huerta/Javier Huerta moved to the main draw as they cleared their respective qualification round hurdles.

Karpa/Sievers beat Australia’s Justin Schumann/Mitchell Wakefield 2-0 (21-18, 21-16) and South Africa’s Mthokozisi Mndingi/Leo Williams 2-0 (25-23, 25-23), while Huerta A./Huerta triumphed against Singapore’s Pei Jie Poon/Fan Shen 2-1 (18-21, 21-11, 15-8) and Austria’s Moritz Kindl/Marian Klaffinger 2-0 (21-18, 21-16).
