Soria/Carro, McNamara twins progress to Bangkok semifinals

 
Bangkok, Thailand, May 12, 2018 – Spain’s Maria Belen Carro/Paula Soria and Canada’s Megan and Nicole McNamara recorded victories on Saturday to advance to the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Bangkok 1-star semifinals at the King Mongkut's Institute of Technology beach courts.



Manila 1-star silver medallists Soria/Carro came through two matches against tough opponents to secure their spot in the final four. The Spanish pair defeated Cuban top seeds Mailen Deliz/Leila Martinez 2-0 (21-12, 28-26) in the round of 12, then beat Phnom Penh 2-star gold medallists Anna Behlen/Sarah Schneider in the quarterfinals.

The McNamaras only had to worry about their quarterfinal encounter with Latvia’s Agnese Caica/Marta Ozolina, whom they were able to outshine 2-0 (23-21, 21-15). The Canadian twins are undefeated in the World Tour since their debut with five wins.

Japan's Ayumi Kusano/Takemi Nishibori and the United States’ Aurora Davis/Bree Scarbrough completed the semifinals draw, following their three-set match victories.

Take/Kusano prevailed against Norway’s Zylstra Hanne Haugen/Janne Pedersen 2-1 (21-14, 15-21, 15-11), while Scarbrough/Davis eluded Lithuania’s Urte Andriukaityte/irina Zobnina 2-1 (12-21, 21-17, 15-8).
