Tuan Chau, Vietnam, May 9, 2018 - The Qualification Tournament teams retained their seeds at the Tuan Chau HaLong Open 2018 of the FIVB World Tour in Vietnam today and cruised through to fill the last two remaining spots of the 16-team Main Draw of the women's only one-star tournament.
Fanny Lindstrom / Sara Malmstrom shut out Talar Kirkor / Anniken Radstrom 2-0 (21-19, 21-14) in an all-Sweden clash and Israel's Sofia Starikov / Noy Chorin knocked out Russia's Ekaterina Filina / Mariia Kontorskaia 2-0 (21-11, 21-13) in the only two matches of the quyalifiers.
The Main Draw at Tuan Chau begins Thursday with pool play matches scheduled to start from 08:30 local time (01:30 GMT). The single elimination bracket begins on Friday, with the semifinals and finals on Saturday.
The start of the Main Draw sees the top two seeds of the tournament - both from Japan - taking on local sides, as No. 1 Sayaka Mizoe / Suzuka Hashimoto lead the charge against Do Thi Hau / Hoang Thi Thanh Huyen. The Japanese pair are fresh from a silver medal at the two-star Phnom Penh event last week - their best finish together in an FIVB World Tour tournament. No. 2 seeds Yui Nagata / Minori Kumada, who were 5th last week in Cambodia, clash with Thi Ha Nhi Phan / T. Bichvi.
Both Vietnamese sides are making their FIVB World Tour debut this week.
