Indonesian top seeds shine on first day of Langkawi main draw

 
Langkawi, Malaysia, April 27, 2018 – Indonesia’s Mohammad Ashfiya/Ade Rachmawan stood out among the seeded teams in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Langkawi Open 1-star, posting two wins on the first day of the main draw competition at Pantai Cenang on Friday.



Top seeds Candra/Ashfiya prevailed in their three-setter against Poland’s Sebastian Kaczmarek/Adrian Sdebel 2-1 (21-17, 17-21, 15-12) before they trounced Canada’s Felipe Humana-Paredes/Cameron Wheelan 2-0 (24-22, 21-17) in Pool A.

The Indonesian pair finished second at the FIVB World Tour Satun 1-star in Thailand.

Yesterday’s two-match winners in the qualification round Petr Bakhnar/Taras Myskiv of Russia, Max-Jonas Karpa/Milan Sievers of Germany and Simon Fruhbauer/Jorg Wutzl held their winning streaks in the other pool play matches.

Bakhnar/Myskiv defeated two Thai pairs Surin Jongklang/Adisorn Khaolumtarn 2-0 (21-17, 21-12) and Nuttanon Inkiew/Sedtawat Padsawud 2-1 (23-25, 21-19, 15-10) in Pool B.

Karpa/Sievers beat Sweden’s Martin Appelgren/Simon Bowman 2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 15-12) and Indonesia’s Danangsyah Pribadi/Gilang Ramadhan 2-1 (18-21, 21-19, 15-11) in Pool C, while Fruhbauer/Wutzl also emerged in two three-set matches against Malaysia’s Rafi Asruki Nordin/Raja Nazmi Saifudding 2-1 (17-21, 24-22, 15-10) and Germany’s Paul Becker/Eric Stadie 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 15-6) in Pool D.
