Warsaw prepares for World Tour 4-star event

Warsaw, Poland, May 16, 2018 - The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour will be returning to Poland with the double-gender 4-star event to be held in Warsaw from June 27 to July 1.

In a press conference held on May 16, FIVB New Events Business Director Angelo Squeo, Polish Volleyball Federation president Jacek Kasprzyk, Warsaw sport and recreation office director Janusz Samel and tournament director Piotr Kaminski presented the event to media representatives. Volleyball superstar Wilfredo Leon was the guest of honour at the press conference.

Staging the World Tour in the Polish capital follows on from hosting events in other major cities like Moscow, Los Angeles and Hamburg.

“The World Tour tournament in Warsaw fits very well with the FIVB strategy of organising such events in big cities,” Squeo said. “I know that volleyball in Poland is one of the most important disciplines. That is why it’s the best place to help make volleyball even more popular all over the world.”

Warsaw is sure to provide a fantastic setting for the World Tour following high-profile beach volleyball events held in the country at Stare Jablonki and Olsztyn, where 17 men’s and 14 women’s World Tour tournaments as well as senior and age group World Championships were held.

The World Tour 4-star event in Warsaw will also help to build fan interest and increase media coverage of the sport as the capital city steps into the spotlight as a new beach volleyball hub in the country.

The event will be held at the Monta Beach Volley Club, a permanent beach volleyball centre. The organisers are planning to establish it as a centre of beach volleyball activities, where they will build state-of-the-art facilities including a hotel and spa, medical and therapy rooms, indoor and outdoor courts, a fully equipped gym, swimming pool and a restaurant.

“I feel grateful to the FIVB for their trust and to the city representatives and Monta Beach Volley Club for their help and cooperation,” Kasprzyk said. “I am sure it’s going to be a great event with a supportive audience. This season is extremely important for us, especially when Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak are ranked second in the World Tour ranking. I hope other Polish pairs will be as successful as they are.”
