German men dominate Langkawi qualification round

 
Langkawi, Malaysia, April 26, 2018 – German pairs Max-Jonas Karpa/Milan Sievers and Paul Becker/Eric Stadie ruled the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1-star Langkawi Open with double straight-set wins at Pantai Cenang on Thursday.



Karpa/Sievers and Becker/Stadie braved the morning rain to record victories against the Netherlands’ Jasper Niewold/Thijs Nijeboer 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) and Sweden’s Linus Frantzich/Ludwig Simonsson 2-0 (21-16, 21-11), respectively.

Karpa/Sievers completed the qualification round with another win over Simon Hagenbuch/Quentin Metral of Switzerland 2-0 (21-13, 22-20), while Becker/Stadie reached the next round with a 2-0 (21-17, 21-13) win over Canada’s William Hoey/Liam Kopp.

Russia’s Petr Bakhnar/Taras Msykiv and Austria’s Simon Fruhbauer/Jorg Wutzl joined the Germans, as they also passed their first two hurdles.

Bakhnar/Myskiv recorded straight-set wins against Italy’s Antonio Basti/Matteo Galli 2-0 (21-12, 21-11) and Austria’s Moritz Kindl/Marian Klaffinger 2-0 (24-22, 21-17), while Fruhbauer/Wutzl beat Switzerland’s Gabriel Kissling/Michiel Zandbergen 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) and compatriots Felix Friedl/Maximillian Trummer 2-0 (21-13, 21-13).
