Lausanne, Switzerland, April 11, 2018 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour calendar just got more exciting with the addition of the Chinese coastal city of Haiyang as a new stop.
Quick links - Beach volleyball:The 3-star event will take place from July 18-22 in the resort town of Haiyang, where the top teams per gender will clash for a prize purse of $150,000, taking the total prize purse for the 2017/2018 World Tour to over $6.7 million.
The addition of Haiyang to the World Tour calendar brings with it the city’s extensive beach sports facilities and experience of hosting top-level events. A permanent beach volleyball venue is currently being built on Haiyang Beach with a capacity for 2000 spectators, with an expansion of the facility possible in the future. In 2012, Haiyang hosted the third edition of the Asian Beach Games, where beach volleyball was among the most popular disciplines in the multi-sport event’s programme.
The number of events on the World Tour continues to grow reflecting the success of the competition's 5-star event structure and providing new opportunities to athletes and event promoters alike. The Haiyang 3-star event will be one of seven stops in China in the FIVB’s 2017/2018 beach volleyball season. Other World Tour events in China include 2-star events in Jinjiang, Nantong and Nanjing, the 3-star event in Qinzhou in October 2017 and the 4-star event in Xiamen later this month. Nanjing will also host the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships from July 10 to 15. The 2018/19 season is also set to include events in Qinzhou and Yangzhou later this year. More events are expected in China in 2019.
In a collaboration between the FIVB and the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), European players/teams qualified for the CEV European Championships from July 15 to 22 (as per the CEV registration deadline which is set to 50 days before the competition on Monday, May 28, 2018) are not eligible to register for the Haiyang 3-star event in China.
