Mullner/Schnetzer stun top seeds in Bangkok quarterfinals

 
Bangkok, Thailand, May 12, 2018 – Austria’s Daniel Mullner and Florian Schnetzer ousted the top-ranked Thai duo Nuttanon Inkiew/Sedtawat Padsawud on Saturday, earning a spot in the semifinals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Bangkok 1-star.

Mullner/Schnetzer defeated I. Nuttanon/P. Sedtawat 2-0 (21-13, 21-18) in the quarterfinals. The Austrians will make it into their first World Tour final four appearance in 2018. Last week, they finished fifth at the FIVB World Tour Manila 1-star.



Two more European pairs – Russia’s Aleksandr Kramarenko/Taras Myskiv and Spain’s Alejandro Huerta/Javier Huerta – are in the semifinals draw with Mullner/Schnetzer.

Kramarenko/Myskiv held their winning streak in Bangkok with a 2-0 (22-24, 21-18, 16-14) win over Japan’s Yuya Ageba/Katsuhiro Shiratori, while A. Huerta/Huerta passed hurdles against Hong Kong’s Kelvin Lau/Pui Lam Wong 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) and Australia’s Tim Dickson/Marcus Ferguson 2-1 (13-21, 21-18, 15-10).

Japan’s Yusuke Ishijima/Takumi Takahashi made it to the final four with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) win over Germany’s Paul Becker/Eric Stadie. The Japanese pair are playing in their first season together and their highest finish was ninth at the Satun 1-star.
