Brazilian wild card duos win Miguel Pereira qualifications

 
Miguel Pereira, Brazil, May 24, 2018 – Two men’s qualification matches were played on Thursday at the Miguel Pereira one-star event on the 2018 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour and two Brazilian wild card duos emerged victorious to join the main draw line-up.


With six teams up and ready to contest the four available berths in the men’s main draw, the two best-ranked, Brazil’s Joalisson Laurindo Gomes and Eduardo Davi Marinho da Rocha and Canada’s Dallas Keith and Jasmin Cull received byes directly into the best 16 of the tournament.


In the first qualification match, an all-Brazilian affair, wild cards Vinicius Rezende Costa Freitas and Luciano Ferreira de Paula managed a 2-0 (21-14, 21-15) win against Allison Cittadin Francioni and Rafael Jose Mendonca de Queiroz.

The main draw line-up was completed by the other wild card pair, Brazil’s Felipe Cavazin Numasawa and Vinicius Gomes Cardoso de Araujo, who also secured a straight-set victory over Norway’s Stian Opsahl and Jonas Tomter – 2-0 (21-16, 21-16).


This way as many as eight host country teams have earned the right to take part in the men’s main draw on the banks of Lake Javary, accompanied by two pairs each from Canada, Colombia and Uruguay and one each from Austria and Slovenia. In both genders, main draw action is scheduled to start on Friday.
