World Tour heads to Bangkok

 
Bangkok, Thailand, May 8, 2018 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour is bound for the vibrant capital of Thailand, Bangkok for a double-gender 1-star event from May 10 to 13.



Top seeds Nutannon Inkiew/Sedtawat Padsawud of Thailand will look to claim another podium finish this season after their gold medal home win at the Satun 1-star and the bronze medal victory at the Langkawi 1-star.

Cuba’s Leila Consuelo Martinez Ortega/Mailen Deliz Tamayo are seeded first in the women’s draw, followed by Manila 1-star gold medallists Ayumi Kusano/Takemi Nishibori.

Germany’s Max-Jonas Karpa/Milan Sievers will chase for a follow-up on their Manila 1-star triumph, while Spain’s Paula Soria/Maria Belen Carro will try to improve on their silver medal finish from last week’s event in Manila.



The countries represented in the men’s tournament are Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Malaysia, Norway, Oman, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and hosts Thailand.

Canada, Cuba, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, United States will join hosts Thailand in the women’s tournament.

The last time Bangkok hosted an FIVB beach volleyball event was in 2005 for the women’s only FIVB Challenger/Satellite.



The tournament will start with the qualification round on Thursday, May 10 and the main draw on Friday. The round of 12 and quarterfinals will follow on Saturday with the semifinals and final matches on Sunday.
