Germans bag gold in World Tour debut at Phnom Penh

 
Phnom Penh, Cambodia, May 6, 2018 - Anna Behlen / Sarah Schneider made a dream debut on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, coming through the qualification tournament and cruising through the Main to strike gold at the two-star Anchor International Beach Volleyball Carnival Phnom Penh 2018.



The German pair who hail from Hamburg, wrapped up their brilliant campaign on Sunday with a sweep of New Zealand's Julia Tilley / Alice Bain 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) in the semifinals, before staging a thrilling comeback win in the final over Japan's third-seeded Sayaka Mizoe / Suzuka Hashimoto 2-1 (17-21, 21-9, 15-8). They collected $4,000 in prize money for their win.

The Japanese had previously knocked out the tournament's No. 2 seeds, Ksenia Dabizha / Daria Mastikova 2-1 (21-13, 17-21, 17-15).

One week after claiming gold at the Langkawi 1-star FIVB World Tour event in Malaysia, Dabizha / Mastikova did eventually climb on the podium with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-8) win over Tilley / Bain in the bronze medal match.
