Karpa/Sievers win gold in Manila

Manila, Philippines, May 6, 2018 – Germany’s Max-Jonas Karpa/Milan Sievers snatched the Manila Open gold, leaving their Russian rivals Petr Bakhnar/Taras Myskiv with back-to-back silver medal finishes in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.

Karpa/Sievers rallied from a set down for a 2-1 (15-21, 23-21, 15-9) win against Bakhnar/Myskiv in the finals on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

The two sides also faced each other in the pool play round in Manila, where Karpa/Sievers prevailed in three sets.

After four World Tour events together, the Germans earned their first gold medal, while the Russians got their second consecutive World Tour silver medal since finishing as runners-up in Langkawi last week.
