Dalhausser and Lucena crossing continents in pursuit of gold

Doha, Qatar, March 6, 2018 – Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser didn’t hang around long after they won the 5-Star Fort Lauderdale gold on Sunday because they were soon jetting over the Atlantic en route to their next assignment at the 4-Star Katara Beach Volleyball Cup in Doha.

The 4-Star KATARA Beach Volleyball Cup runs from March 6-10, and will take place at the KATARA Cultural Village. Lucena and Dalhausser’s campaign will begin on Tuesday when the main draw begins.

Both arrived on Monday evening, just over 24 hours after they won gold in Florida, their ninth gold medal on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.

They begin their quest to win a first gold medal in Doha as first seeds. Their best result to date was the silver medal they won in 2015.

All three sets of medallists will be in the Qatari capital. Italians Paolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo won silver in Fort Lauderdale and start as fourth seeds, while Latvia’s Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins won bronze and begin the competition as sixth seeds.

The host nation is represented by three teams, with Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan the highest ranked pair at 20th.
