McNamara twins make successful debut in World Tour

 
Bangkok, Thailand, May 10, 2018 – Canada’s Megan and Nicole McNamara made a successful debut with a victory in the qualification round of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Bangkok 1-star, less than a week after they led the University of California at Los Angeles to a 2018 collegiate women’s beach volleyball championship.



The McNamara twins, along with Japan’s Sakurako Fujii/Samaa Miyagawa, the United States’ Aurora Davis/Bree Scarbrough and Germany’s Anna Behlen/Sarah Schneider passed through the first round with a bye.

In their second round match, The Canadian twins doubled the excitement at the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology main court, where they rallied from a set down to win 2-1 (17-21, 21-17, 15-11) against Germany’s Karoline Frohlich/Viktoria Seeber on Thursday. The 20-year old sister act will now advance to the pool play rounds on Friday, May 11.

In the other second round matches, Sakurako/Miyagawa dominated South Africa’s Luciana Pierangeli/Simone Sittig 2-0 (21-6, 21-10), while the United States’ Scarbrough/Davis overwhelmed Sweden’s Isabelle Pahlson/Josefine Tivefalt 2-0 (21-11, 21-11).

Germany’s Behlen/Schneider have qualified to the main draw with another bye in the second round.
