Lausanne, Switzerland, June 23, 2018 – Satono Ishitsubo and Asami Shiba and Oscar Brandao and Luciano Ferreira de Paula won gold at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1-Star Manavgat Open on Saturday.
Thirteenth seeds Ishitsubo and Shiba from Japan beat the sixteenth seeds Sara Cools and Lisa Van der Vonder from Belgium 2-1 (17-21, 21-13, 21-19) in exactly one hour.
Brandao and Luciano needed slightly less time to beat Kristoffer Abell and Daniel Thomsen. The Brazilians beat the Danish pair 2-0 (21-14, 23-21) in 44 minutes.
The local fans had some domestic success to cheer in the women’s bronze medal match when Merve Nezir and Aleyna Vence beat Japan’s Erika Habaguchi and Yurika Sakaguchi 2-1 (9-21, 21-16, 15-12).
The men’s bronze went to Jannes van der Ham and Sven Vismans. The Dutch pair beat Spanish brothers Javier Huerta Pastor and Alejandro Huerta Pastor 2-1 (14-21, 21-16, 15-11).
