Semifinals in sight at Mersin 3-Star

 
Mersin, Turkey, May 5, 2018 – Top seeds Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan of Qatar must find a way past third seeds Diaz Nivaldo and Sergio Gonzalez from Cuba if they want to continue their progress at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Mersin 3-Star on Saturday. 

Four teams per gender will remain at the Mersin 3-Star on Saturday when the quarterfinals wrap up. 


In the women’s draw Thailand’s Varapatsorn Radarong and Tanarattha Udomchavee are rewarded for beating first seeds Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar of Australia, with a match up against fifth seeds Valentyna Davidova and Ievgeniia Shchypokova from Ukraine. 

Teams that win twice on Saturday will progress to the semifinals that take place on Sunday, while those that lose will be looking ahead to the next stop on the World Tour, in Lucerne next week. 

First up though teams will have to find their way through the second knockout round before the quarterfinals take place later on Saturday. 

Teams that topped their pool return to the fray after receiving a bye to the second knockout round and a day off on Friday. The second and third placed teams went through the first knockout round on Friday to remain in the competition.
