WATCH: What does it take to form a team?

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 16, 2017 – What makes a team? In short, it’s the sum of its parts. In beach volleyball, one and one should equal one. One team.

In any team sport, athletes, coaches, professionals, amateurs, journalists and fans argue about who your 15, 11, nine, six, five, etc., players should be. But if it was a simple mathematical equation, everyone would get it right.

You can put the six best volleyball players on a court but still not have the best team, because teamwork is about chemistry, not maths.

In beach volleyball, the rest of your team consists of just one person and making that selection will make or break you as a team.

In the Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series video “What does it take to form a team,” some of the giants of beach volleyball talk about the elements that make for a great partnership.

These elements include friendship, respect, strength, passion, anger and even prayer. The purpose is athletic but the chemistry is human.

What does it take to form a team?

Everything.
