Americans, Germans, Norwegians and Canadians rule Bangkok pool play

 
Bangkok, Thailand, May 11, 2018 – The United States’ Aurora Davis/Bree Scarbrough, Germany’s Anna Behlen/Sarah Schneider, Norway’s Zylstra Hanne Haugen/Janne Pedersen and Canada’s Megan McNamara/Nicole McNamara topped pool play to reach the quarterfinals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Bangkok 1-star at the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology on Friday.



Scarbrough/Davis got the top spot in Pool A with triumphs against Cuban top seeds Mailen Deliz/Leila Martinez 2-1 (19-21, 26-24, 15-12) and Latvia’s Agnese Caica/Marta Ozolina 2-0 (21-18, 21-8).

After receiving two byes in the qualification round, Behlen/Schneider displayed great strength in Pool B by recording victories over Hong Kong’s Wai Yan Au Yeung/Ting Chi Yuen 2-0 (21-10, 21-11) and Japan’s Ayumi Kusano/Takemi Nishibori 2-0 (24-22, 21-17).

Pedersen/Zylstra also achieved double victories in Pool C against Sweden’s Sigrid Simonsson/Tadva Yoken 2-1 (12-21, 21-17, 15-11) and Lithuania’s Urte Andriukaityte/Irina Zobnina 2-0 (21-15, 21-11).

The McNamara twins continue to impress in Pool D as they succeeded against Thailand’s Pronsuda Kritsana/Yodsaphat Pakham 2-0 (21-15, 21-17) and Spain’s Maria Belen Carro/Paula Soria 2-1 (16-21, 21-17, 15-10).
